TUMBLE V AMMAN UNITED // 65 - 0 10 DECEMBER 2005

Match Report:

The young Magpies served up a feast of running rugby in an open, well refereed match with their Amman United counterparts at the Gwendraeth School field on Saturday. With Tumble having taken one scrum against the head the game switched to non competitive scrums but this did not hamper the Magpies’ flow of possession. Tight head prop Keenan Jones, returning to something near his best, opened the scoring with a typical storming try converted by Aled Thommasson.

Dangerous scrum half Mathew Gibson helped himself to a well deserved first half hat trick with some elusive running. Classy centre Mathew Lemon and his hard working partner Aled Gealy contributed two further tries from running rugby with Thommasson converting a further three times to give the home side a 38 point lead at the halfway mark.

The match continued to follow the same pattern although a game Amman side never gave up. Lemon completed a hat trick with two further individual tries coming from creative breaks, converting one himself. Prop Jones bustled his way over for another score while wing Alex Rees crossed wide out and number 8 Rhydian Jones was justly rewarded for his endeavours with the last try. Counter attacks set up by full back Owain Jones and outside half Thommasson were a constant feature and the free flowing style of rugby was a joy to watch.
