TUMBLE V AMMANFORD // 19 - 7 APRIL 2006

Match Report: Pedantic refereeing ensured that this match never got going at all as the man in the middle attempted to go through the rule book, with one boy even conceding 10 yards for "rolling his eyes at me"! In what rugby that was played Amman opened the scoring against the run of play with a try near the posts for Iwan Davies which was converted by outside half Jamie Davies. Tumble held the upper hand in the scrums winning ball against the head and phase possession saw winger Tomos Rees cross for a try that was converted by fly half Aled Thommason.

The second half was a similar stop start affair but Tumble dominated possession and forwards Keenan Jones and Rhydian Jones, who had an excellent game, carried the ball well to set up prominent field positions. Lineout jumper Daniel Wood started stealing a few throws but the scrums were passive for the second half. In defence flanker James Evans tackled admirably but had to leave the field with a nasty cut. Full back James Hunt counter attacked well, ably supported by Tom Rees who scored two further tries with scorching runs to complete a well deserved hat-trick. One of these was converted by Thommason.

One had to feel sorry for the players who were never allowed to get the game flowing due to a lack of feeling for the game of rugby. It was a credit to both teams that they maintained their discipline.
