Match Report: A free flowing game entertained a decent crowd at Parc Mynydd Mawr where the young Magpies entertained a youthful Cefen side. Although it seemed one-way traffic the never-say-die attitude of the Cefen youngsters ensured a competitive climax. Tumble opened the scoring as the ball sped along the back line for centre Mathew Lemon to cross out wide, this was followed quickly by a blind side dart for scrum half Owain Jones who crossed for another unconverted try. There followed 2 individual tries from mazy runs by Lemon and full back Dean Evans though it has to be said that the tackling was extremely poor, Daniel Griffiths converted one of the scores. Forwards Aled Lewis, who ran well throughout, Keenan Jones, who was a constant threat with his ball carrying and industrious Jamie Cooper crossed for further first half scores, Jones converting one score again. The second half followed a similar pattern with Aled Gealy crossing twice, one a wonderful switch in midfield, number eight Rhydian Jones was rewarded for an enterprisinf display with a brace of tries. Replacement scrum half Mathew Gibson showed his strength with a good individual try wide out and Mathew Riordan crossed for a superb blind side winger try straight from the training ground. Only one was converted by Keenan Jones. Cefneithin held out well in the closing stages and mounted a late assault on the Magpies? line which almost resulted in a score. None typified the Cefen effort more than the tireless Danny Yeomans. -- Gwyn |
