Match Report:

A large crowd, on what was eventually a fine dry afternoon, witnessed a gritty performance from Tumble who came away with three well deserved points. Llandybie the current league leaders were expected to put the Magpies to the sword and consolidate their position but nobody told the Magpies the script.

From the outset Tumble hustled, harried their opponents, tackling with grit and determination which left the home side frustrated for long periods of the game. With a bare 15 players, the Magpies were grateful to neighbours Cefneithin to allow Danny Yeomans a permit to be on the bench. The game started explosively for Tumble as second row Daniel Wood secured ball allowing scrum half Daniel Griffiths to feed lively outside half Chris Powell, whose long raking kick took play deep into home territory. The ball was turned over in midfield following sterling work by Aled Gealy and James Hunt and the latter won the race to the tryline to score an unconverted try after five minutes play.

Spurred on by this start, the Magpies back row of Jamie Cooper, James Evans and the inspirational Aled Lewis constantly snapped at their opponents. This pressure enabled the half backs to use some astute kicking where necessary to relieve mounting pressure from some big Llandybie forwards. The Tumble front row of Darren Williams, Cieron Guest and Aled Hughes put in some big hits and their bodies were black and blue from this effort at the end of the game.

With Llandybie trying to force their way back into the game, Tumble's defence stood resolute and a relieving kick from Powell caused confusion in the Llandybie defence. Following up the kick, Hunt and Mathew Riorden turned the ball over allowing Tumble's forwards of Evans, Cooper and Lewis to feed Huw Jones whose bullocking run saw him crash over for a try which Powell converted. Second rows Wood and Huw Jones won good ball from the lineout and, when combined with their ferocious defensive tackling in their own 22, Daniel Griffiths broke clear to speed 70 metres downfield to score wide out. The try went unconverted.

The home team's only reply was a solitary penalty at this stage. Tumble still could not rest and full back Dion Gealy used some deft skills to keep the line from being broken. He had able support from wingers Gareth Davies and Mathew Riorden but, with half time looming, the defence was finally breached when Llandybie scored a try in the corner.

Tumble replaced Huw Jones with Danny Yeomans and the expected Llandybie onslaught continued. Tackle after tackle was made and Tumble's front five were magnificent as were the back row which were lively throughout. Yeomans and Wood put in bone jarring tackles as did Guest and Williams but Llandybie rumbled forward. This continual pressure was bound to take its toll and Llandybie reduced arrears further with their second penalty. Sensing they were back in the game, Llandybie kept the visitors pinned in their own 22 for long periods. Going into the final 5 minutes, Tumble lost the services of James Hunt following a collision and Aled Gealy through cramp. The 13 remaining fit Magpies tackled to the end ably led by Lewis, James and Griffiths. It was left to an error from Llandybie when Mathew Riorden gathered a wayward kick. He sped down the wing to feed Gareth Davies who outstripped the cover defence to score a spectacular try in the corner.

Referee Dylan Williams, who managed the game well, blew up shortly thereafter much to the delight of Tumble supporters and players alike.
